August 13, 1904 60 acres of land in Cobb County west of Marietta are transferred to the Dan McCook Brigade Association. This is the start of today's Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park

June 27, 1914 50 years after the battle of Kennesaw Mountain a monument to the battle carved by J. Mario Korbel is unveiled in the vicinity of the heaviest fighting (Cheatham Hill)

February 8, 1917 Kennesaw Mountain, west of Marietta, is authorized by Congress to become a memorial to the men who died in the Civil War battle
